What is lifestyle photography?
Family lifestyle photography is full of life and connection, going far beyond stiff and unnatural poses and instead focusing on the unique relationship within each individual family.
What is a typical Family session like?
A typical session lasts up to 1 ½ hours on location or at your house. I like to make it fun and relaxed for the whole family. You and your family will be playing, running, jumping, reading and cuddling while I direct you to interact with each other. When we schedule your session, I’ll send you a questionnaire that helps both of us to prepare for a unique experience. Your answers will also help me to make sure to capture anything that is important to you right now.
What is a typical Newborn session like?
Newborn sessions might take longer, depending on the baby’s needs. That’s why I schedule them in the morning. This way you have all the time in the world to feed and change your baby. There’s no rush and it’s all about you and your baby. I don’t work with a lot of props. I feel drawn to newborn photography that is simple and natural. Through my work I want you to remember the pureness of your baby when you held it for the first time.
I offer two types of newborn sessions: in-home and posed. If you choose an in-home session, I will come to your house and document your family with focus on your baby. For a posed session I invite you to my studio. You can enjoy a cup of tea, read a magazine and lean back while I pose your baby in a safe and warm environment on a bean bag and capture all her/his precious little details.
What should we wear?
Bright colors and neutral colors tend to photograph well. While it used to be popular for everyone in the family to match exactly (e. g. everyone wears white shirts and jeans), many families are now leaning towards choosing a color palette and then letting each family member choose their favorite clothes within those colors. The color palette can be lighter/neutral/pastel colors, or you can go with brighter tones like red, green, blue, yellow. You might also want to think about a theme - for example, retro, classic, urban, elegant, bright & sunny, or casual and laid back. The most important thing is to choose clothing that matches your family's style and especially for kids, something that they will be comfortable in and happy to wear.
Aside from choosing a color palette (and a theme if it suits you), the only "rule" I would suggest is to avoid wearing shirts or jackets with big logos or characters. They can be distracting and take the focus away from your family's beautiful faces.
What happens if it rains?
We still can do an in-home session, if there’s enough natural light at your house (if you have big windows). For outdoor sessions overcast days are fine, but if it rains, we will either need to move indoors to a location with a lot of natural light, or reschedule the session for a time when it's not raining.
What if my children don’t cooperate?
Please don’t worry about that at all. It is totally normal that kids won’t sit still or smile happily at the camera on demand. I expect them to be exactly the way they are! I like to capture the essence of childhood – and childhood is full of energy and movement. We will do the things your children enjoy most and you will see, in no time we will be able to capture the joy of your family life!
Where can I print my pictures?
Most of my packages already include some high quality prints. If you would like to order more prints or different sizes, just let me know and I will send you my price list. In case you prefer to have them printed somewhere else, beware of budget labs and canvas retailers as they tend to change the color and use low quality paper.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and I look forward to photographing your family!
